ARTS AND CRAFTS
Tim used his dinosaur collection as a source of comfort as he hopped from one foster care family to the next. His favourite dino was the Parasaurolophus. Can you guess why by the end of the story?
Parasaurolophus means ‘crested lizard’. These herbivores lived in the Cretaceous Perior about 76 million years ago. Like a lot of the duck-billed genus of dinosaurs from that period, Parasaurolphuses sported unusal head shapes, like its bony tubular crest that extended back from the top of its head. Many scientists believe the crest, containing a labyrinth of air cavities and shaped something like a trombone or trumpet (like a brass, horn or wind instrument), might have been used to produce distinctive sounds. Birds have similar structures as ‘pipes’. To hear what these fascinating dinos ‘might’ have sounded like, click on the image below.
Why not recreate the Cretaceous Period with your own versions of the Parasaurolophus. Just click on the images below to reveal the activity instructions! For the more dexterious, challenge seekers, try the Origami version!

Tim loves his dinosaurs. Maybe one day, he’ll grow up to be a Paleontologist. Meanwhile, you can help him indulge in his prehistoric passions by digging up (making) these tasty dinosaur bones. They are a fun treat to add to any party or just as a sweet snack. Did you spot what Mrs Roser was nibbling on in the story? Perhaps you can make these too. Because chocolate makes everything better!
